Freaking into film
Stereotypes in 'Big Fish'
Yet another Indian playing a freak in the movies: Deep Roy plays an Indian circus dwarf in 'Big Fish.' Mr. Soggybottom is Danny DeVito's foil, his personal assistant in the circus. As with 'Bad Santa,' the film is populated with oddsters of all flavors, but this is still the quickest way for a non-white actor to get into a major film. Since Roy actually appears to have dwarfism, there aren't many mainstream roles open to him.
Kal Penn was, however, a scene-stealer in 'Van Wilder'; still a heavily-accented, Tonto-like sidekick, he had the funniest scene in the movie.
